On Saturday my husband made last minute reservations at Sevy’s for my mother-in-law’s birthday dinner. There were seven of us total, so it was difficult finding a reservation at the last minute on a Saturday. He called Rise and then Hillstone without any luck. I suggested Sevy’s because it is not packed on Saturday nights, but it is not empty either. Sevy’s is a good choice for a last minute reservation or a special occasion when you desire a good meal.
I have only dined at Sevy’s about five times over the past year during dinner. The noise level is not too loud, and it is not difficult to find parking if you do not want to do valet. The customer service has always been friendly but not particularly fast. The average age of people dining appears to be 50ish, and many of the customers look like they live in University Park or Highland Park.
I was extremely tired and hungry Saturday eve, so I forgot to take pics of the three appetizers that were ordered. I only tried the Kuby’s Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage. This appetizer was great and not too greasy. My husband thought the Tomato Basil Goat Cheese Crostini was wonderful, and he would rate is as a 9 out of 10. The third appetizer ordered was Smoked Shrimp Cakes. My stepson was hogging this appetizer, and he said this was his favorite part of his entire dinner. The appetizer portions are not very large. It is barely enough for two people to thoroughly enjoy.
For our entrees, my husband and I both ordered Sevy’s Smoke House Beef Tenderloin Filet. I ordered mine well done as always, and my husband ordered his medium. My husband said he would give his filet a 7 or 8 out of 10. He thought it was a good cut of meat, but the flavor was lacking a little. I agree. My favorite filet is at III Forks, so it is difficult for any restaurant to beat that. The side that comes with the filet is Grilled Vegetables, so we ordered a side of Whipped Potatoes to share as well. In the past I usually ordered Strube Ranch Kobe Short Ribs. These are some of my favorite Short Ribs in Dallas, only second to Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill. The Whipped Potatoes were delicious.

My mother-in-law and brother-in-law both ordered the Seared Day-Boat Jumbo Sea Scallops. There were two separate orders…They did not share this. My brother-in-law thought it should receive a 6 or 7 out of 10, but he is extremely critical. He enjoyed his meal despite this. My mother-in-law loved hers because she is not extremely critical.

One member of the family only ordered a plate of vegetables due to some health issues. My vegetarian friends would not approve of this grilled vegetable plate because it is not a complete meal for them. Who would eat a pile of onions????

My stepson ordered the special of the day which was linguini with scallops, I think. I do not have a pic of his dish. He did not enjoy his meal because his scallops were undercooked. He sent his meal back to the kitchen. My sister-in-law ordered the Maine Lobster Linguini, which I don’t have a picture of either.
Dinner also comes with complimentary bread. The bread is good, but the crust is not incredibly soft. It is softer than the bread at Grand Lux and The Cheesecake Factory though.

Mostly everyone ordered their own desserts. I ordered the Best of Both Worlds Crème Brulee. It was amazing! I tried the other desserts ordered, and this one was the best! One crème brulee was vanilla bean, and the other was Godiva chocolate. The chocolate was my favorite. I realize I posted this pic twice in this review, but I did this because it was SOOOO GOOOOD!

Three people ordered their own Chocolate Chip Chocolate Mousse Cake. It was not a warm cake, and the cake was not soft enough in my opinion. It was not a bad dessert, but it was not as delicious as the crème brulee.

My husband ordered “Ham’s” Peach Orchard Ice Cream Sundae. He thought it was good, but he liked my dessert better. This dessert comes with vanilla pound cake, peach sauce, cinnamon caramel, and sweet cayenne pecans.

Eating at Sevy’s is not cheap. Like I mentioned earlier, it is a good place for special occasions unless you can afford expensive meals frequently. Sevy’s does not “receive” a fart rating from me. I have not had a bad experience here or a rumbly tummy. From where I was sitting, I could see in the kitchen. It appeared to be clean, and the dining room was clean as well. At a minimum I would wear “dressy casual” clothing, but you will see some men just wearing jeans and a plain shirt at times.
